Lagavulin 16 YO is Islay's single malt whiskey that has become a classic, benchmark island drink. In the production of the drink, traditional, almost artisan methods are followed: selected barley is dried with peat smoke, and the distillation process is extremely slow. Distinctive features of Lagavulin 16 years old are given by the water used in the distillation. It has a characteristic taste due to its high mineral content. Ripening of the drink takes place in American oak barrels, previously stored bourbon, for 16 years. The long maturation gives Lagavulin 16 years of interesting dryness and smoky sweetness. Peat bogs and sea air saturate the aged drink with an unsurpassed flavor and aroma that is inherent in this original and memorable whiskey.
