Drink Responsibly
Energy drinks have long gained popularity among Ukrainian consumers. They bring to life when necessary, giving a charge of vivacity and positive.
Manufacturers emphasize that energy drinks are recommended for physical exertion and increased mental activity. They save from drowsiness and feelings of lethargy. This is a real salvation for those who do not want to lose the active rhythm of life.
However, as in many life situations, the main thing is moderation. If you use energy drinks, following the recommendations, there will be no harm to the body. And caffeine in an ordinary 250-milliliter can of energy is nothing more than in a cup of espresso or two bars of dark chocolate.
In addition, energy drinks often include vitamin complexes that enhance the action of natural stimulants, provide a quick flow of energy and help restore strength after physical or mental stress.
Safety reasons for power engineers are confirmed by international studies. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), an authoritative European scientific organization that studies food safety and quality, in its report “The Scientific Idea on the Safety of Caffeine” issued a verdict that the use of energy drinks is safe for health while observing the daily intake of caffeine. Valid daily doses of caffeine are 400 mg for adults and 3 mg per kg of body weight for adolescents.
EFSA did not leave without attention the safety issues of individual ingredients of power engineers. According to her research, the main components of these drinks do not have a harmful effect on the human body.
What does an ordinary energy bank contain?
- Caffeine is the main component that provides an energy effect in such drinks. In moderate doses, it increases mental activity, performance, attention and concentration. In one jar of energy, the volume of 0.33 liters contains about 100 mg of caffeine, which is ¼ of the daily dose of this substance for a healthy person;
- Taurine is an organic substance that is in our body and affects the functioning of the heart and muscle strength. This amino acid is present in many protein foods, such as seafood and poultry. Studies have shown that taurine does not harm the body even in high doses, and there is not much energy in the bank;
- Glucuronolactone is another natural substance derived from glucose, which is also found in many foods and helps to excrete products from the body resulting from accelerated metabolic processes.
These substances contained in energy drinks are present in the daily diet of an average family. There are no contraindications to the use of these ingredients by healthy people, it is enough to observe the dosage. However, it is recommended to refuse power engineers in the presence of individual intolerance to individual components or cardiovascular diseases.
There are additional rules that you should pay attention to when consuming energy drinks, especially considering the bright and for many attractive taste of these drinks:
- Do not use energy continuously - “jar after jar”, this can lead to a sharp increase in blood pressure and other negative consequences;
- It is important to consider your individual diet, remembering that other foods, such as coffee and tea, also contain caffeine;
- you should refrain from independently mixing energy drinks with alcohol - the consequences can be unpredictable. Preference should be given to ready-made alcoholic energy cocktails, where the dosage is indicated and the proportions are maintained;
- Children should not consume energy drinks (just like any other caffeinated foods). This may contribute to their excessive excitement.
Like no other products containing caffeine, energy drinks are labeled with information for consumers about the amount of caffeine and its consumption rate, they warn about the restriction of consumption by certain categories of people.
Ukrainian manufacturers not only label energy in full compliance with the requirements of the law, but also provide consumers with additional information. Some of them are participants in the “Live Reasonably” social initiative, one of the main tasks of which is to provide reliable, scientifically verified information on the composition of energy drinks and the recommended norms for their consumption. As part of this initiative, manufacturers place a mark “Drink Responsibly” on each package of energy drinks, and specialists conduct informational work with consumers. For example, channels and tools that are popular among this audience are used to convey important information to young people.
Energy drinks are safe for people of all ages. This is confirmed by numerous studies by reputable international organizations. The only condition is to adhere to the recommended standards.
