Pandemic does not stop tequila production in Mexico
Blue agave cultivation and tequila production are considered vital industries.
Sanitary restrictions by the country's government due to the raging pandemic in the world did not in any way damage the production of tequila in Mexico. On the contrary, at the time of quarantine measures the authorities attributed the cultivation of blue agave and directly the production of tequila to the vital industries.
The export of the national Mexican drink in the first quarter of 2020 exceeded the previous year by 20%. So, from January to March 2019, 55.1 million liters of tequila were exported, while from January to March this year, the volume amounted to 66.6 million liters of this strong alcoholic beverage.
The world's number one consumer of tequila is Mexico’s northern neighbor, the United States, which accounts for more than 80% of exports (204 million liters), followed by Germany, Spain and France.
