Dufftown Distillery
Dufftown Distillery
The history of the Dufftown distillery begins in 1896, when Peter McKenzie, Richard Stackpole and John Simon founded a distillery in the heart of Speyside. Not far from the plant is its main secret - the Dorris Well River, thanks to the water from which the unique smoothness of Dufftown drinks is achieved. According to legend, competing distilleries even tried to change the course of the river, the water from the source was of such exceptional quality. Two years after its founding, McKenzie becomes the sole owner. The company becomes popular and conquers American markets, which subsequently plays an evil role: the introduction of Prohibition in the States stops all activities of the enterprise. Therefore, in the 33rd year, the plant passes into the hands of Arthur Bell. Since 1947, production has resumed in Dufftown, which has flourished to this day. In the 70s, the distillery was expanded twice, due to which it produces about 4 million liters of whiskey a year.
